SIOUX CITY — Kiah Stokes scored 30 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked 10 shots to lead Class 4A No. 3 Linn-Mar past Class 3A No. 11 Sioux City Heelan, 73-47, Friday night (Dec. 10) in a non-conference girls’ basketball game.
The game was a rematch of the defending Class 4A and 3A state champions and was the Lions’ second game against a defending champ in less than a week. Linn-Mar beat Class 2A defending champ Mount Vernon, 64-60, Saturday at Mount Vernon.
Stokes made 14 of 22 shots and the Lions (6-0) shot 32 of 61 from the field as a team. Mykaela Brandt added 13 points.
Linn-Mar bolted to a 19-7 lead after one quarter and led 32-21 at halftime. Jenna Eells’ 3-pointer started a 9-0 run by the Lions to begin the second half and they were never threatened.
Heelan (4-2) shot 32 percent from the field and was outrebounded, 39-30.
Linn-Mar plays Class 4A No. 7 Sioux City North on Saturday at 1 p.m.
