Katie Sommer leads Lions to regional finals

Katie Sommer scored 14 points and Aryn Jones added 10 to lead Linn-Mar by Iowa City West, 46-37, Saturday in a Class 5A regional semifinal girls basketball game at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar (15-8) advances to play No.4 Waukee (19-3) in the regional finals Tuesday at Marshalltown.

Kristie Sommer added nine points for Linn-Mar and Olivia Montague had eight.

Linn-Mar trailed 23-18 at halftime, but battled back to claim a 31-30 lead after three quarters. The Lions outscored the Women of Troy, 15-7, in the final period.

Linn-Mar tops Kennedy in OT, 67-63

The Sommer twins proved to be too much for the Kennedy Cougars Thursday.

Katie Sommer and Kristie Sommer combined for 42 points as Linn-Mar rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat the sliding ninth-ranked Cougars, 67-63, in overtime at Linn-Mar.

Kennedy (14-7, 8-5) led 35-18 at intermission. Morgan Martin led the way with 18 first-half points and a defense that allowed the Lions only three points in the second period.

Sommer sisters lead Linn-Mar past Wahlert

Sisters Kristie and Katie Sommer scored 16 points apiece to power Linn-Mar past Dubuque Wahlert, 69-34, Tuesday night in Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball at Linn-Mar.

Olivia Montague added 10 points for Linn-Mar (13-8, 8-4).

Linn-Mar outscored Wahlert 19-8 in the second quarter to build a 33-18 halftime lead.

Linn-Mar used 13 players and nine scored.

Sommer sisters vault Lions past Saints

Linn-Mar built a 12-point lead in the first quarter and rolled past Xavier, 55-35, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Xavier.

Kristie Sommer scored 13 points and Katie Sommer added 12 for Linn-Mar (12-8, 7-4).

Maddie Bertsch scored 10 points to pace Xavier (9-10, 6-6).

Linn-Mar held a 17-5 lead after one quarter. The Lions' lead was nine after three quarters, but they outscored Xavier 12-1 in the fourth period to pull away for the win.
