No. 1 Little Hawks blast Linn-Mar

IOWA CITY - All-stater Haley Lorenzen scored 21 points and Kiera Washpun added 18 as Class 5A No. 1 Iowa City High rolled to a 75-28 win over Linn-Mar on Friday night.

The Little Hawks (15-0) also got 14 points from Courtney Joens.

The Lions (9-5) were playing without senior Kristie Sommer, who missed the game with a concussion.

Taylor Robertson led the Lions with 7 points.

Sommer leads Lions past Wahlert, 53-44

DUBUQUE - Katie Sommer scored 21 points and Olivia Montague added 11 to carry Linn-Mar past Dubuque Wahlert, 53-44, Tuesday night in Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball.

Sommer cracked the 1,000-point barrier in her career, which started at Dubuque Senior. She has 1,013 points.

Aryn Jones added eight points for the Lions (9-4, 6-3). Linn-Mar again played without Kristie Sommer, who is out with an injury.

Jade Lynch scored 24 points for Wahlert.

Katie Sommer scores 33, Lions tripped by PV

DUBUQUE - Katie Sommer scored 33 points, but her Linn-Mar teammates mustered but 18 more and the Lions were tripped up by Pleasant Valley, 57-51, Saturday in a non-conference girls basketball game at Loras College.

The Lions (8-4) played without Kristie Sommer, who is averaging 15.4 points per game.

Olivia Montague added 10 points for Linn-Mar.

Sydney Dwyer led Pleasant Valley (7-5) with 15 points.

Linn-Mar girls fall to Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls handed Linn-Mar just its third girls' basketball loss of the season in Mississippi Valley Conference action Friday night at Linn-Mar, 59-43.

The Tigers (5-4 overall, 2-4 MVC) built a 10-point first-quarter lead and kept the defensive pressure on the Lions all night.

"The girls had a great start," Coach Dan List said. "We jumped out to a quick lead, were able to contain Linn-Mar's offense and controlled the rebounds throughout the game."

Sommer twins sizzle against Prairie

It may have been bitter cold outside the Prairie gymnasium Tuesday night, but it was Sommer time inside.

Twin sisters Kristie and Katie Sommer combined for 37 points to lead the Linn-Mar girls to an easy 57-36 romp over the short-handed Hawks.

Prairie was without influenza-bitten playmaker and point producer Madison Dellamuth, and it showed.

“We were completely out-of-sync on both ends of the floor,” said Hawks Coach Steve Doser. “We were looking for some leadership, but we didn't see what we wanted. We looked lost.”

The dynamic Sommer girls, meanwhile, seemed right at home.
