Fast start propels Linn-Mar girls past Marion

Linn-Mar shot out to a 25-3 after one quarter and breezed past Marion, 54-33, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference girls basketball game at Marion.

Katie Sommer scored 27 points and Kristie Sommer added 15 to lead Linn-Mar (7-2).

Amanda Sahm's 16 points paced Marion (1-7).

Linn-Mar girls bury Waterloo East, 67-17

Kristie Sommer scored 21 points and Taylor Robertson added 12 to lead Linn-Mar past Waterloo East, 67-17, Friday night in girls basketball at the Linn-Mar gym.

Claire Larson had 10 points for Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar led 20-11 after one quarter and 46-13 at halftime.

Makayla Marquand led East with seven points.

Sommer sisters haunt ex-mates

DUBUQUE - The Sommer sisters had a triumphant return against their former team Tuesday night.

Kristie Sommer scored 18 points and Katie Sommer added 15 to lead Linn-Mar past Dubuque Senior, 59-49, in a girls basketball game.

The Sommers moved into the Linn-Mar district last summer before their senior season after playing for Dubuque Senior the past three years.

They combined for 33 points and knocked down five of Linn-Mar's nine 3-pointers. Aryn Jones added 10 points. Olivia Montague hit three 3-pointers for nine points.

Linn-Mar - Girls Basketball

No.2 Little Hawks dispatch Linn-Mar girls

Haley Lorenzen scored 18 points and Courtney Joens 16 to lead No.2 Iowa City High past Linn-Mar, 68-46, Saturday afternoon in a girls basketball game at Linn-Mar.

Lorenzen and Joens combined to make 16 of 23 shots from two-point range. The Little Hawks shot 58 percent overall and were 71.4 percent from inside the arc.

Katie Sommer scored 13 points and twin sister Kristie had 11 for Linn-Mar. The Lions shot 33 percent overall and were 2 of 20 from 3-point range.

Sommer twins lead Lions by J-Hawks

For the Linn-Mar girls, Friday night was all about redemption.

They admittedly played poorly Tuesday in a 33-point loss at Kennedy and weren't about to let it happen again at home against Jefferson.

“We wanted to redeem ourselves,” said senior guard Kristie Sommer, who led the Lions with 21 points in a 65-49 victory over the J-Hawks.

“This is our house,” added twin sister Katie Sommer, who chipped in with 20 points. “We don't like to lose here.”
