Linn-Mar deals Clinton a loss

Brandt Ollinger had two hits and drove in two runs to lead Linn-Mar to a 4-1 win over Clinton in a non-conference baseball game Saturday at Linn-Mar.

Jimmy Roth laso had an RBI double for the Lions (17-12).

Justin Wyant pitched five innings for the win. Austin Stroschein pitched the final two innings and earned a save.

Jennings shines as Lions, Warriors split

Nick Jennings pitched a two-hit shutout as the Linn-Mar Lions defeated Washington, 11-0, in six innings in the second game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Washington Friday night.

Lucas Matsuda and Johnny Dobbs had three hits apiece as Washington captured the first game, 10-6.

Brandt Ollinger went 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Linn-Mar in the 11-0 victory. Mitch Stickney was 2-for-3. Kyle Mortensen, Austin Stroschein and Jimmy Roth scored two runs.

Noah Dostal went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for Washington in the 10-6 triumph. Eric Loeffleholz was 2-for-3 with two runs. Landon Akers had two RBIs and scored twice. Matt Troendle went 2-for-3.

Wyant, Stroschein toss Lions by J-Hawks

Justin Wyant and Austin Stroschein will be leaving for college later this summer and the next step in their baseball careers, but they'd like to help the Linn-Mar Lions make a return trip to the Class 4A state tournament before they leave.

Wyant and Stroschein took steps in that direction with good pitching performances Wednesday night as Linn-Mar swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader from Jefferson, 13-7 and 6-3, at the Linn-Mar complex.

Wyant allowed only one run in five innings in the opener in sweltering conditions, then Stroschein went the distance and threw 100 pitches in the nightcap.

Lions bumped off by Cascade, 7-5

The Linn-Mar Lions took a break from their normal diet of Class 4A baseball competition Wednesday night to play the Cascade Cougars, who are ranked No.3 in Class 2A.

It did not have a happy ending for Linn-Mar.

Cascade tripped the Lions, 7-5, at the Linn-Mar complex.

Reimer, Ollinger power Lions to sweep

CEDAR FALLS - Caleb Reimer drove in four runs in the opener and Brandt Ollinger had five RBIs in the nightcap to power Linn-Mar to a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Falls, 12-2 and 9-4, Monday in Mississippi Valley Conference baseball.

Reimer's three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning of the opener broke a 2-2 tie and sparked a six-run outburst by the Lions (13-10, 9-5). They tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning.

Ollinger singled home a run in the second inning, then had a bases-clearing double in the third inning of the nightcap.

Linn-Mar had 29 hits in the doubleheader, Cedar Falls (10-7, 7-7) was held to eight.

The twin wins vaulted Linn-Mar into second place in the Valley Division, two games behind leader Prairie.
