Prairie Hawks clobber Lions, 63-17

The Cedar Rapids Prairie football team summed up its performance at John Wall Field Friday night with a six-word yell with Coach Mike Morrissey leading the way.

"We came! We saw! We conquered!"

Boy, did they ever.

The Hawks rolled up 615 yards of total offense and squashed the Linn-Mar Lions, 63-17, in a Mississippi Conference mismatch of epic proportions.

Lions enjoy homecoming romp, 42-17

Linn-Mar’s defense has been much-maligned through the first half of the season. An undersized group, the Lion defenders have given up huge chunks of yards to some quality opponents.

In Friday night’s homecoming game with Dubuque Wahlert, the defense was front and center.

The Lions held the Golden Eagles to 184 total yards, 45 in the first half, and the offense was its usual explosive self in a 42-17 win at Linn-Mar Stadium.

For a team that was giving up more than 40 points a contest, Linn-Mar was stingy all night. The Golden Eagles could never get a sustained attack going against a swarming Lions’ defense.

Tigers crush Lions on the ground, 56-28

CEDAR FALLS – Linn-Mar has run into its share of good football teams over the first five weeks.

The Lions have shown flashes of brilliance on offense, but have struggled on the defensive side.

That was the case again Friday night against Cedar Falls.

Linn-Mar gave up 589 yards to the Tigers, 449 of which came on the ground as Cedar Falls rebounded from an upset loss last week to Waterloo West with a 56-28 victory.

Snitker carries Wash past Linn-Mar

It has been a long time between wins for Paul James as a head coach.

James returned to the Cedar Rapids Washington sideline this season after a seven-year hiatus.  In the first three games this season, his Warriors had ample opportunity to get a victory. They weren’t about to let that chance slip away in Friday night’s showdown with Linn-Mar at Kingston Stadium.

Washington scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to break a 14-14 deadlock, then held off a final drive from the Lions to come away with a hard-fought 26-21 win.

Lions pound Waterloo West, 59-35

The Ryan and Ross show took center stage Friday night at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Junior quarterback Ryan Schmidt tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another while hard-nosed senior tailback Ross Lembeck rushed for four scores as Linn-Mar got its first win of 2013, downing Waterloo West, 59-35.

Coach Bob Forsyth’s Lions raced to a 42-6 halftime lead, then survived some anxious moments in the third quarter to secure the win.

After two tough losses to open the season, Linn-Mar came out with a renewed spirit against the Wahawks and rolled up 564 yards of total offense.
