No.9 Lions trim Waterloo West

The Linn-Mar Lions trimmed Waterloo West, 2-1, in overtime in an exciting Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match Tuesday night at Linn-Mar.

The ninth-ranked Lions trailed 1-0 late in the game, but Ben Johnson scored in the 79th minute on a rebound to tie the contest. Jason Gingrich took a free kick that the Waterloo West goalie could not handle and Johnson put it home.

Kevin Simons scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute with an assist from Johnson to give Linn-Mar the victory. Johnson got the ball on the end line and passed it between the goalie and the defender to Simons, who was waiting and uncovered.

Selvedina Begic scored for Waterloo West in the second minute of the game.
