Linn-Mar boys beat Prairie in a shootout

George Steil's save ended a penalty kick shootout and lifted Linn-Mar past Prairie, 1-0, Saturday morning in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer game at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar had three shots on goal during regulation, but none found the net. Prairie did not get off a shot on goal. The game went to penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods.

Prairie got makes from its first and third shooters, Brady Anderson and Colyn Snyder, but the second fourth shooters went high over the crossbar. Linn-Mar's first three shooters -- Eric Pfau, Jon Paulson and Ryan Gingrich -- made their shots before Matt McKillip missed his shot that would have won the game.

Prairie's fifth shooter, Santiago Ortiz, needed to make his kick to force Linn-Mar's fifth to shoot. Steil made a sprawling save and the 12th-ranked Lions escaped.

Linn-Mar 1, Prairie 0 (SO)
