No.3 Lions pin Women of Troy, 3-0

IOWA CITY - Olivia Garcia scored a pair of second-half goals that iced Linn-Mar's 3-0 win over Iowa City West Tuesday in girls soccer.

No.3 Linn-Mar took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Claire Larson.

Emily Menges, Jensen Sevening, Malory Garman and Caitlyn Swenson had assists for the Lions.

Keeper Rylie Frese had seven saves.

No.3 Linn-Mar girls blank Wash, 4-0

Jensen Sevening, Brooke Roberts, Claire Larson and Olivia Garcia scored goals Thursday night as No.3 Linn-Mar shut out Washington, 4-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Linn-Mar Stadium.

The Lions scored all four of their goals in the second half.

Sevening and Emily Manges had assists.

Rylie Frese made three saves for the shutout.

Lions proving selves in tough conditions

They have played just four games, been hindered by an inconsistent practice schedule and have a roster littered with sophomores and freshmen.

Yes, the Linn-Mar girls soccer team is still working to find its way. Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie on a raw, windy night at John Wall Field showed the good and bad for the 4-0 Lions.

The good has been a defense that has not been scored on in 346 minutes of play. The not so good has been the inconsistency that comes with youth combined with tough playing conditions.

"This was a good win for us under tough conditions against a very good Prairie team," said Linn-Mar Coach Steve Dickinson. "Our defense has been pretty solid. They work well together as a group."

Kvach lifts No.4 Lions by Hempstead

Kayla Kvach scored in overtime Thursday night as No.4 Linn-Mar blanked Dubuque Hempstead, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Linn-Mar.

Kvach put away a mishandled corner kick for the victory.

Linn-Mar trumps Kennedy in shootout

Kayla Kvach's goal on the seventh penalty kick in a shootout lifted No.7 Linn-Mar past No.5 Kennedy, 1-0, Thursday in Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer at Linn-Mar.

Neither team scored in regulation or overtime. The Cougars had a goal disallowed due to an offside call.

The Lions won the PK shootout, 7-6. Linn-Mar goalkeeper Rylie Frese preserved the victory by making the final save of the match.
