IOWA CITY -- Maggie Rizor's two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie and sent Linn-Mar past Iowa City West, 5-3, Monday night in the nightcap of a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader.

Iowa City West (7-3, 2-2 MVC) won the opener in three innings, 12-0. Danielle Chelf's grand slam highlighted West's 12-run first inning.

Ellie Rizor had three hits and scored three runs in the nightcap for Linn-Mar (4-7, 2-2). She also had an RBI double. Kelsey Duggan had two hits.

Linn-Mar still is playing without several key players. The Lions have not had eighth grade pitcher/infielder Alexis Kelsey (broken finger) nor senior Lindsey Harms (mono). Monday night the Lions did not have senior Leandra Martins, was playing in the regional final soccer game, and junior catcher Hannah Yearling  played in game one, but sat out the nightcap because of illness.
