Lions drop pair to Dubuque Senior

Dubuque Senior swept the Linn-Mar Lions in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday night at Linn-Mar, 9-7 and 11-2.

A.J. Medinger and Kristie Sommer socked two-run homers for the undefeated Rams (16-0, 10-0) in the opener.

Maddie Rizor collected a home run and double for the Lions in the opener. Kortlan Olinger and Maddy Ryan also hit round-trippers for Linn-Mar (6-8, 4-6) in Game 1.

Dubuque Senior held a precarious 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning of the nightcap, but the Rams struck for eight runs. Natalie Blatz and Sommer homered for Dubuque.

Kelsey Duggan and Madison Rentschler had two hits for the Lions in the nightcap.

Lions split games at IC West softball tourney

CORALVILLE -- The Linn-Mar Lions split a pair of games at the Iowa City West softball tournament Saturday at the UI complex.

The Lions lost to Iowa City Regina 10-3, then bounced back with a 10-0 victory over Tri-County in five innings.

Maddy Ryan and Maggie Rizor had two hits against Regina and Lauren Swanson had a two-run double. Alexis Kelsey took the loss.

Linn-Mar (6-6) collected 12 hits in the victory over Tri-County. Kelsey Duggan, Ryan, Hannah Yearling and Madison Rentschler had two hits apiece.

Rentschler had an inside-the-park home run and a double against Tri-County. Kortland Ollinger had a triple. Cheyenne Hansen was the winning pitcher.

Lions split at IC West tourney

CORALVILLE -- The Linn-Mar Lions split a pair of lopsided games at the Iowa City West softball tournament Friday at the UI complex.

The Lions (5-5) lost to Class 5A No. 8 Muscatine, 12-3, in their first game and topped Central City, 11-1, in their second contest.

Muscatine scored seven runs on four Linn-Mar errors in its nine-run victory. Kelsey Duggan and Maggie Rizor had two hits for the Lions. Alexis Kelsey had two RBIs.

Cheyenne Hansen got the victory for the Lions against Central City. Kortlan Ollinger, Duggan and Hannah Yearling had three hits. Ollinger collected three RBIs and a triple.

Maggie Rizor had two hits and two RBIs against Central City. Georgia Kolf also had two hits.

The tournament continues Saturday.

Kelsey hits home run for Lions

Linn-Mar shortstop Alexis Kelsey brightened a tough day for the Linn-Mar softball team Thursday night against Iowa City West with a home run in the opener at Linn-Mar.

Iowa City West swept the Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader, 8-1 and 14-0.
