Marion girls fall to DeWitt

The Marion and DeWitt Central girls basketball teams combined for 62 points in the first half Friday night, but then everybody lost their shooting touch and they combined for only 24 points in a sluggish second half.

DeWitt Central went home with a 47-39 victory in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

DeWitt Central outscored Marion, 34-28, in the first half. DeWitt had the advantage in the second half as well, this time by a 13-11 margin.

Michalyn Mohr led Marion (4-12, 4-9) with 15 points and Amanda Sahm had 11. Only four players scored for the Indians.

Amanda Brainerd and Miranda Meland scored 17 apiece for DeWitt Central. Meland hit five 3-pointers.

Marion - Girls Basketball

Center Point tops Marion girls

Arika Wooldridge and Kennedy Salow poured in 24 points apiece Tuesday night as Center Point-Urbana topped Marion, 60-47, in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

Amanda Sahm scored 14 points for Marion (4-11, 4-8). Michalyn Mohr contributed 12 points and Jozee Peyton had 11.

Center Point-Urbana raised its records to 11-5 overall and 8-4 in the league.

Whitney leads Indians past Sabers, 43-35

DE WITT - Marissa Whitney scored 13 points and Amanda Sahm added 10 to lead Marion past DeWitt Central, 43-35, Friday in Wamac girls basketball.

Michalyn Mohr added nine points for the Indians.

MARION (43): Peyton 1 0-2 2, Sahm 4 2-4 10, Dunne 0 0-0 0, Fuller 0 0-0 0, Jones 1 0-0 2, Whitney 4 2-2 13, Jordan 1 2-4 5, Frazier 0 2-2 2, Mohr 4 1-2 9. Totals 15 9-16 43.

Marion girls trumped by Maquoketa

It's been their bugaboo all season.

The Marion girls fell way behind Maquoketa at home Tuesday night, played catch-up the rest of the way and never could get over the hump.

Scoring on free throws at the end, Maquoketa won, 54-42, ending a six-game losing skid and stopping Marion's win streak at one.

“I don't know, we always seem to start slow,” said Indians junior center Michalyn Mohr, one of only two experienced players on a very young Marion squad. “We dig ourselves into a hole. Then we have to fight back the whole game.”

Sahm, Mohr spark Marion girls

VINTON - Amanda Sahm scored 22 points and Michalyn Mohr added 16 Friday night as the Marion Indians topped Vinton-Shellsburg, 55-46, in a Wamac Conference game in Vinton.

Marion (3-9, 3-6) led 21-15 at halftime, then scored 34 points in the second half.

Sahm went 8 for 10 at the foul line and hit two 3-pointers. Dani Dunne also hit two 3-pointers for the Indians.

Anna Sagan led Vinton-Shellsburg with 17 points.
