Marion girls fall at Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG - Paige Greiner scored 16 points Monday night as Williamsburg topped Marion, 55-40, in the first Wamac Conference girls basketball game of the season.

Amanda Sahm and Michalyn Mohr led Marion with 10 points apiece.

MARION (40): Peyton 1 1-2 3, Sahm 3 3-4 10, Fuller 0 0-2 0, Jones 0 0-0 0, Blazek 1 0-2 2, Whitney 0 0-0 0, Jordan 3 0-2 7, Frazier 4 0-0 8, Mohr 3 4-7 10. Totals 15 8-19 40.

WILLIAMSBURG (55): Ritchie 2 0-0 6, LaneĀ  3 1-2 7, Bigbee 5 0-0 10, Simmons 4 0-0 9, Greiner 6 3-3 16, Berkland 0 0-0 0, Miller 0 0-0 0, Broeg 2 1-7 5, Pounds 0 0-0 0, Huedepohl 1 0-0 2. Totals 23 5-12 55.

Halftime - Williamsburg 24, Marion 17. 3-point goals - Marion 2 (Sahm 1, Jordan 1), Williamsburg 4 (Ritchie 2, Simmons 1, Greiner 1). Total fouls - Marion 13, Williamsburg 13. Fouled out - none.

Laube has young squad with Marion girls

Corby Laube helps coach both of his daughters' AAU youth basketball teams and also coaches his son's fourth grade team, so he's accustomed to working with young players.

That's good, because he also coaches the Marion High School girls basketball team and there's not a single 12th grader on the club.

There could have been two seniors this year, but Emi Banes tore her ACL last summer and has been lost for the season and another senior elected not to play.

Kramer will play hoops at Hannibal-LaGrange

Former Marion High School athlete Kristin Kramer has signed a letter-of-intent to play NAIA basketball at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Mo.

Kramer enrolled at Southwest Minnesota State after graduating from high school, intending to play basketball and soccer at the NCAA Division II school. However, she was plagued by injuries and transferred to Iowa Wesleyan College.

Kramer will have three years of eligibility at Hannibal-LaGrange.

6 Metro girls make INA all-state

Dani Franklin of Cedar Rapids Washington and Ashley Stulken of Xavier have been named first team all-state in girls basketball by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Franklin helped the Warriors reach the state tournament and was named first team all-state in Class 5A. Stulken helped the Saints win a state title and was named first team in Class 4A.

Abby Herb of Washington, Madison Dellamuth of Cedar Rapids Prairie and Paige Hendrickson of Kennedy were named third team all-state in Class 5A.

Michalyn Mohr of Marion High School was named second team all-state in Class 4A.

Ally Disterhoft of Iowa City West was named Miss Basketball.

Mohr makes all-Wamac basketball team

Marion High School sophomore Michalyn Mohr has been named to the Wamac All-Conference girls basketball team in the West Division.

Mohr was a unanimous selection to the first team. She helped Marion finish 10-4 in the West Division, 13-5 in all Wamac games and 13-8 overall this season.

Beth Knapp of Marion was named second team all-conference. Paige Perkins and Amanda Sahm received honorable mention.
