MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat Marion, 5-4, Thursday night in a Wamac Conference softball game.
Michaela Martin laid down a squeeze bunt to end the game after batters reached base in the inning on an error, a single and a double.
Martin also was the winning pitcher.
Kylea Weber was 4-for-4 for Mount Vernon, scored three runs and had an RBI triple.
Marion's Leah Smith and Beth Knapp each went 2-for-4. Mikayla Goemaat was the losing pitcher.
Mount Vernon (22-6) is ranked ninth in Class 3A. Marion is 11-14, 5-10 in the Wamac.
