Marion drops twinbill at Vinton

VINTON - The Marion High School softball team dropped a pair of tight Wamac Conference games at Vinton-Shellsburg on Monday.

Vinton-Shellsburg won the first game, 3-2, in eight innings and captured the nightcap 4-1.

Marion scored in the top of the seventh inning in the opener to tie the game at 2-2 and force extra innings, but Vinton-Shellsburg scored in the bottom of the eighth to win it.

Allison Scott went 3-for-3 for the Indians in the opener, scored a run and drove in a run. Beth Knapp had two hits.

Marion girls split at IC West tourney

CORALVILLE -- The Marion Indians belted Central City, 13-1, in three innings Saturday to split their two games in the Iowa City West softball tournament at the UI complex.

The Indians lost their first game Saturday to Davenport West, 5-0, on a no-hitter.

Lauren Rausch and Marissa Whitney had three RBIs against Central City. Haley Vanourney was the winning pitcher.

Marion softball swept by Clear Creek Amana

The Marion Indians were swept by Clear Creek Amana, 10-0 and 6-0, in a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday.

Marion got only two hits in each game.

Marion sweeps 3 games at Central City

CENTRAL CITY - The Marion High School softball team won all three of its games at the Central City Tournament on Saturday.

The Indians began the tournament with a 6-1 victory over Central City. They followed with a 14-2 conquest of Midland and ended their day with a 5-0 verdict over Clayton Ridge.

Eighth grader Amber Fiser pitched a one-hitter and Beth Knapp went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the victory over Central City.

Michalyn Mohr went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored in the victory over Midland. Knapp, Fiser, Haley Vanourney and Lauren Rausch collected two hits apiece and Knapp had two doubles.

Mikayla Goemaat pitched a five-hit shutout in the game against Clayton Ridge. Mohr went 3-for-4 for the Indians while Fiser and Paige Perkins had two hits apiece. Perkins drove in three runs and Fiser had two doubles.

Marion splits softball twinbill at Beckman

DYERSVILLE - The Marion Indians outscored Dyersville Beckman 20-12 Thursday in a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader in Dyersville, but the Indians had to settle for a split.

Haley Vanourney and Emi Banes drove in four runs apiece as Marion captured the second game, 17-7. Lauren Rausch went 4-for-5 and scored four runs. Michalyn Mohr and Vanourney had three hits apiece. Mohr had two doubles.

Beth Knapp collected three hits for Marion in a 5-3 defeat in the opener.
