Marion - Softball

Marion rallies for split against Indee

Marion bounced back from a 16-0 pasting to beat Independence, 2-1, Monday night and earned a split in the Wamac Conference softball doubleheader.

Beth Knapp and Paige Perkins had run-scoring hits that plated both Marion runs in the nightcap. Haley Vanourney fired a three-hitter to pick up the win.

Allison Scott had two of Marion's four hits in the opener. The Indians are 14-15 overall.

Marion girls win 3 games at Marshalltown tourney

MARSHALLTOWN - The Marion High School softball team compiled a 3-1 record at the Marshalltown tournament this past weekend.

The Indians (14-15) defeated South Hardin, South Tama and East Marshall in the two-day event Friday and Saturday. They suffered their only loss to Colfax-Mingo.

Marion - Softball

Mount Vernon squeezes past Marion

MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat Marion, 5-4, Thursday night in a Wamac Conference softball game.

Michaela Martin laid down a squeeze bunt to end the game after batters reached base in the inning on an error, a single and a double.

Martin also was the winning pitcher.

Kylea Weber was 4-for-4 for Mount Vernon, scored three runs and had an RBI triple.

Marion's Leah Smith and Beth Knapp each went 2-for-4. Mikayla Goemaat was the losing pitcher.

Mount Vernon (22-6) is ranked ninth in Class 3A. Marion is 11-14, 5-10 in the Wamac.

Marion splits softball twinbill with Benton

VAN HORNE - The Marion Indians collected 15 hits and defeated Benton Community, 10-4, in the first game of a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader Monday.

Leah Smith, Allison Scott, Beth Knapp, Paige Perkins, Michalyn Mohr and Haley Vanourney had two hits apiece. Vanourney drove in three runs. Smith, Knapp and Mohr had two RBIs.

Benton Community won the second game, 6-2.

Solon softballers batter Marion

SOLON -- Eighth grader Ali Herdliska had two hits and drove in three runs to power Solon past Marion, 7-1, Wednesday in the opener of a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader.

The second game was rained out.

Solon (9-1, 6-1) banged out 20 hits. Alyssa Rickels had four.

Marion (6-8, 3-5) was held to four hits. Kaitlyn Nathem drove in the Indians' run.
