TIFFIN - The Marion Indians finished second in their pool at the Wamac Conference volleyball tournament Tuesday night and advanced to the championship round at Marion on Thursday.
Maquoketa won the pool with a 3-0 record, followed by Marion (2-1), Vinton-Shellsburg (1-2) and Anamosa (0-3).
Marion defeated Vinton-Shellsburg, 21-13, 21-9, and topped Anamosa, 21-8, 21-8. The Indians lost a tough match to Maquoketa, 22-20, 21-19.
There are 16 teams in the Wamac Conference. The volleyball tournament was divided into four pools. The top-2 finishers in each pool advance to the championship round, while the bottom-2 finishers in each pool advance to the consolation round.
The pool winners were second-ranked Solon, No. 6 West Delaware, No. 8 Maquoketa and Dyersville Beckman. The pool runners-up were Marion, Western Dubuque, Waterloo Columbus and Williamsburg.
Play continues Thursday at Marion High School at 4 p.m.
