Marion spikers go 2-1 in Wamac tourney

CENTER POINT - Marion won twice, but lost to Mount Vernon and finished 2-1 in Wamac Conference volley tournament pool play Tuesday at Center Point-Urbana High School.

The Indians, ranked 10th in Class 4A, whipped Western Dubuque in two sets, 21-13, 21-14.

They also vanquished Vinton-Shellsburg in two sets, 21-15, 21-16.

Marion won the first set against Class 4A No. 9 Mount Vernon, 21-18, then dropped the next two in thrilling fashion, 21-19, 16-14.

Mount Vernon won the pool with a 3-0 record.

The Wamac tournament concludes Thursday with bracket play at Mount Vernon.
