Marion wins Mid-Prairie volleyball title

WELLMAN - The Marion Indians won all five of their matches Saturday to claim the title at the Mid-Prairie Invitational volleyball tournament.

Marion defeated Benton Community (21-16, 21-12), Iowa City Regina (21-18, 21-15), West Liberty (21-18, 21-15), Williamsburg (21-17, 21-12) and Mid-Prairie (21-18, 21-8).

The Indians raised their overall mark to 15-7 and have a 4-1 record in the Wamac Conference.

Alyssa Thomas led Marion with 41 kills and eight blocks in the tournament. Amanda Sahm collected 85 assists in five matches. Jessica Thomas served nine aces as the Indians did not lose a game all day.

Lauren Rausch, Johanna Stegall, Abby Phillips, Michaela Combs, Kelsey Portwine and Kaela Halvorson also made important contributions to the victory.

Thomas girls lead Marion spikers to win

Marion's Alyssa Thomas had 18 kills and five blocks to lead the Indians past Waterloo Columbus in Wamac Conference volleyball Thursday night at Marion.

The Indians won by scores of 26-24, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-14.

Jessica Thomas also had a big night for the Indians. She had 12 kills and was a perfect 25 of 25 serving with four aces.

Marion is 10-7 overall and 4-1 in the Wamac.

Marion spikers blitz Independence

Marion's volleyball team swept all three sets and whipped Independence in a Wamac Conference match Tuesday at Marion.

The Indians won by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-12

Marion improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Wamac.

Saints, Indians fall in volleyball semifinals

VAN HORNE -- The Xavier Saints and Marion Indians both lost in the semifinals of the Benton Community volleyball tournament Saturday.

The Saints won their pool competition with a 3-0 record, then were nipped by Union of LaPorte City 25-23, 28-26 in the semifinals.

Marion finished second in its pool competition with a 2-1 mark, then lost to Grundy Center in the semifinals 25-13, 25-23.

Xavier defeated Durant (21-13, 21-12), Cascade (21-16, 21-14) and Marion (21-18, 21-10) in pool play. Kayla Torson collected 35 kills and 24 digs in the tournament for the Saints. Sarah Homan rolled up 87 assists and Halle Heying had 33 digs.

Marion defeated Durant (21-19, 23-21) and Cascade (21-13, 21-18) before losing to Xavier in pool competition.

Union defeated Grundy Center, 18-25, 25-23, 18-16 for the title.

Marion spikers clipped by Clippers

TIFFIN - The Marion Indians were trimmed by Clear Creek Amana, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, in a Wamac Conference match in Tiffin Tuesday night.

Amanda Sahm collected 43 assists for Marion and Abby Phillips had 42 digs.

Johanna Steggall finished with 14 kills for the Indians. Alyssa Thomas had 13 kills and Jessica Thomas had 12.

Phillips went 20-for-20 on serves and Jessica Thomas was 15-for-15.
