Brandt, McCrary will play college basketball

Mykaela Brandt and Courteney McCrary, two of the top basketball girls players in the Metro area this year, will continue their careers in college next season.

Brandt, a 5-foot-6 point guard from Linn-Mar, plans to play at Wisconsin-Platteville. McCrary, a 5-foot-9 wing player, has committed to Coe College.

Brandt averaged 11 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds for the Lions this season and made 35 3-pointers. She was named first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference.

Brandt was Linn-Mar's starting point guard as a sophomore when the Lions reached the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament in 2011.

McCrary averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and nearly two steals for Prairie this season and helped the Hawks win the first Mississippi Valley Conference division title in school history. She was named second team all-Metro and second team all-MVC.

McCrary made 49.8 percent of her shots from the field and hit 27 3-pointers.
