Prairie girls drop 5th straight

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team has fallen on hard times following an 11-3 start this season.

The Hawks were handed their fifth straight loss Tuesday night, 63-44, by the Dubuque Wahlert Golden Eagles in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Alisa Weiland led Prairie (11-8, 8-7) with 13 points. Madison Dellamuth scored 10 points. Courteney McCrary, who has been battling an illness, did not play for the Hawks.

Tessa Leytem tossed in six 3-pointers for Wahlert and scored 22 points. The Golden Eagles made ten 3-pointers in the game.

Prairie is ranked 12th in Class 4A. Wahlert (16-4, 11-4) is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.

WAHLERT (63): Walker 2 2-2 6, Hoffman 0 0-0 0, Lynch 3 0-0 8, Leytem 8 0-1 22, Smith 3 0-1 7, Mills 0 0-0 0, Schmitt 1 0-0 3, Ochs 2 1-1 5, Cody 4 2-3 10, Kopppes 1 0-0 2. Totals 24 5-8 63.

PRAIRIE (44): Adams 0 0-0 0, Dellamuth 4 1-1 10, Freeman 2 0-0 4, Hutchins 1 3-6 5, Rotter 2 2-2 6, Sanders 0 0-0 0, Weiland 5 0-1 13, Yanacek 3 0-0 6. Totals 17 6-12 44.

3-point goals - Wahlert 10 (Leytem 6, Lynch 2, Smith 1, Schmitt 1), Prairie 4 (Weiland 3, Dellamuth 1).
