Lorenzen leads City High by Prairie

IOWA CITY - Haley Lorenzen tossed in 27 points Tuesday night as second-ranked Iowa City High bounced Cedar Rapids Prairie, 60-43, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game in Iowa City.

Olivia Usher collected 18 points and seven rebounds for Prairie (3-2, 2-1). The 5-foot-8 sophomore made four 3-pointers.

The Hawks trailed by just four points at halftime, 33-29, but scored only 14 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Hutchins, Usher pace Hawks by Indians

Cyerra Hutchins scored 18 points and Olivia Usher added 16 Saturday night as Prairie spanked Marion, 69-36, in a girls basketball game at Prairie.

Madison Dellamuth hit four 3-pointers and contributed 14 points for Prairie (3-1). She also had four assists.

Amanda Sahm and Michalyn Mohr scored 14 points apiece for Marion (1-3).

Prairie girls flatten Waterloo East

Cedar Rapids Prairie raced to a 42-6 lead at halftime Friday night and dumped Waterloo East, 61-10, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Prairie.

Cyerra Hutchins scored 12 points to lead Prairie (2-1, 2-0). Madison Dellamuth collected 10 points, seven assists and four steals.

Waterloo East fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the MVC.

Hutchins sparks Prairie by J-Hawks

In a fast-paced duel from start to finish, the Jefferson girls had Prairie on the run early but faded halfway through and fell, 73-64, on their home turf Tuesday night.

“We felt lucky to be down by only one at halftime,” said Prairie Coach Steve Doser. “And I thought the first three minutes of the second half were really key.

“We came out a lot more aggressive. We really picked it up, had a great rebounding effort and made some shots. That was the difference.”

Down by as many as eight points in the first half, Prairie took its first lead at 33-32 right after the intermission on a long two-pointer by leading scorer Cyerra Hutchins.

Muskies trip Prairie girls again

In their four years, the Prairie girls have never defeated Muscatine in the two teams’ traditional season opener.

They certainly had their chance Saturday night at home but were flummoxed by turnovers and missed free throws.

After leading early, the Hawks ended up losing 56-46.

A veteran squad that made it to state last season, the Muskies came out as cold as the weather outside, And they couldn’t keep from fouling. But the Hawks failed to take full advantage.
