Dellamuth gets green light at Prairie

Madison Dellamuth is an excellent ballhandler, passer and on-ball defender for the Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team.

Now Coach Steve Doser wants the 5-foot-6 point guard to think more about putting the ball in the basket on a regular basis.

Dellamuth, who has committed to Bradley University, averaged 11.6 points last season when the Hawks won the first Mississippi Valley Conference division title in school history. Doser wants to see that number get bigger.

Cyerra Hutchins commits to KCC hoops

Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Cyerra Hutchins has committed to play basketball at Kirkwood Community College next season.

Hutchins, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 9.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals for Prairie last season when the Hawks finished 15-9.

Hutchins is the second member of the Prairie basketball team to make a college commitment. Madison Dellamuth has committed to Bradley University.

Madison Dellamuth commits to Bradley

Madison Dellamuth, an all-state point guard at Cedar Rapids Prairie, announced Wednesday morning that she has committed to play college basketball at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Dellamuth, a 5-foot-6 senior, averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals last season when Prairie finished with a 15-7 record. She hit 43.1 percent of her 3-pointers (25 of 58) and shot 67.1 percent at the foul line.

Dellamuth was named third team all-state by the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Bradley finished 14-16 overall last season and went 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Brandt, McCrary will play college basketball

Mykaela Brandt and Courteney McCrary, two of the top basketball girls players in the Metro area this year, will continue their careers in college next season.

Brandt, a 5-foot-6 point guard from Linn-Mar, plans to play at Wisconsin-Platteville. McCrary, a 5-foot-9 wing player, has committed to Coe College.

Brandt averaged 11 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds for the Lions this season and made 35 3-pointers. She was named first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference.

Prairie - Girls Basketball

6 Metro girls make INA all-state

Dani Franklin of Cedar Rapids Washington and Ashley Stulken of Xavier have been named first team all-state in girls basketball by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Franklin helped the Warriors reach the state tournament and was named first team all-state in Class 5A. Stulken helped the Saints win a state title and was named first team in Class 4A.

Abby Herb of Washington, Madison Dellamuth of Cedar Rapids Prairie and Paige Hendrickson of Kennedy were named third team all-state in Class 5A.

Michalyn Mohr of Marion High School was named second team all-state in Class 4A.

Ally Disterhoft of Iowa City West was named Miss Basketball.
