Hawks hold off Cougars’ late charge

Prairie built a 122-pin lead in the first round to hold off Kennedy’s charge in the Baker round and beat the Cougars, 2966-2955, Friday (Dec. 10) in an MVC match at Lancer Lanes.

Prairie had three bowlers break the 400 series barrier in the first round. Chase Becket rolled a 244-215 for high series at 459. Sean Steichen had a 231 high game and 441 series, Jeremy Cline a 404 series.

Corey Williams had high game (221) and series (415) for Kennedy.

Prairie held a 2005-1883 lead after the first round.  The Hawks built their lead to 174 pins after the first two games of the Baker round, but Kennedy won the third game by 64 pins and the fourth by 76 to cut the Hawks’ margin to 34 pins.  Even though the Cougars won the fifth game, 203-180, it was too large a deficit to overcome and Prairie escaped.

KENNEDY (2955): Casey Sheets 203-387, Corey Williams 221-415, Troy McKiernan 220-396, Kyle Custer 205-361, Anthony Spoke 188-324.

PRAIRIE (2966): Chase Bicket 244-459, Nick Blood 181-330, Spencer Schultz 184-367, Jeremy Cline 213-404, Sean Steichen 231-445.

First round — Prairie 2005, Kennedy 1883. Baker round — Kennedy 1072, Prairie 961.
