Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Rachel Carney will be joining the parade of Metro athletes on the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team next season.
Carney plans to sign her letter-of-intent with the Panthers at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Prairie library.
Carney led Prairie (8-10-1) with 10 goals and four assists as a junior in 2011 and was a first-team selection on the Mississippi Valley Conference honor squad.
There were six former Metro athletes on the UNI soccer team this fall, including freshmen Morgan Bjornsen (Washington), Liz Frerichs (Kennedy), Madisen Garman (Linn-Mar), Shauna Happel (Kennedy) and Kali Hubler (Linn-Mar). Missy Journot, a senior from Kennedy, also played for the Panthers this season.
Northern Iowa finished with an 8-10-3 record this season for Coach James Price, its most wins in eight years.
