Washington's Mitch Blades and Jackson Hoyt won the doubles championship Thursday in the Class 2A boys tennis district meet at Westfield Tennis Center.

The team of Blades and Hoyt qualified for the state singles and doubles tournament May 24-25 at Vets Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.

Blades and Hoyt were seeded No.1, but they lost the first set of the championship match, 6-1, to the second-seeded Cedar Falls duo of James McManus and Roy Ju.

But the Warriors rallied to win the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-4, to win the match.

Washington's Ian Schweiger and Reid Rossberger finished fourth in doubles.

Second-seeded Andy Mong of Cedar Falls upset his No.1 seeded teammate Rex Ju, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, to win the singles title. Jefferson's Jacob Donald was fourth.

Cedar Falls won the district title with 29 points. Washington was second with 22 and Jefferson third with nine.

Cedar Falls advanced to the team substate tournament. Washington will host Jefferson in a preliminary substate match Saturday, with the winner moving on.

The top two finishers in singles and doubles qualified for the state tournament. If a first- or second-place contestant is unable to participate, the third-place finisher will be given the opportunity to replace them.
