AMES - Maddie Bertsch, Grace Winker and the Xavier Saints turned the Class 4A state golf tournament into their personal showcase Tuesday.
Bertsch claimed medalist honors with a 3-over-par 149, Winker placed second at 156 and the Saints ran away with the championship by 55 shots at the Ames Golf & Country Club.
Xavier finished with a 36-hole score of 691, leaving Charles City (746) far back on the course.
Bertsch fired two solid rounds at the state meet with a 1-over-par 74 on
Monday and a 2-over on Tuesday. Winker also was consistent with 5-over-par 78's both days.
Catie Locher (203), Melanie Wertzberger (211), Kara Zwanziger (219) and Amy Olberding (268) also contributed to Xavier's state title.
The Saints are coached by Julie Kadlec. Bertsch plans to continue her golf career at the University of Northern Iowa.
