ANKENY - The Linn-Mar Lions and Iowa City West Trojans took their boys tennis rivalry all the way to the championship match of the Class 2A state team tournament in Ankeny Tuesday.
Iowa City West won the state title, 5-2, even though Linn-Mar prevailed at the top of the singles matches.
Brady Anderson of Linn-Mar defeated Blake Oetting of Iowa City West, 6-4, 6-4, at No.1 singles. Tim Paulson of Linn-Mar rallied to defeat Jiung Jung of Iowa City West, 1-6, 7-6, 6-0 at No.2 singles.
Trevor McCann of Linn-Mar won his first set at No.3 singles against Trent Schneider, but Schneider rallied for a three-set victory.
Linn-Mar blanked West Des Moines Valley, 5-0, in the semifinals Tuesday with Anderson, Paulson, McCann, Ben Myers and Shane Skvor all winning in straight sets.
