Jarrod Uthoff plans to leave Wisconsin

Jarrod Uthoff has asked for his release from the University of Wisconsin men's basketball program and plans to transfer to another college, the Metro Sports Report learned Thursday night.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the situation said Uthoff has great respect for Wisconsin Coach Bo Ryan, but that he wants a change and is looking for a different situation.

Uthoff, a 6-foot-8 forward, won Mr. Basketball honors at Cedar Rapids Jefferson in 2011 and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 26.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots.

He was redshirted at Wisconsin this past season as a true freshman.

Uthoff will have to take another redshirt season in 2012-13 due to NCAA transfer rules, then would have three years of eligibility at his next school.

Uthoff did not answer his cell phone when the Metro Sports Report tried to reach him Thursday night.

Uthoff weighed about 190 pounds when he enrolled at Wisconsin and said he needed to get bigger and stronger before competing in the Big Ten.

A source said Thursday night that colleges have already begun inquiring about Uthoff and possibly seeking his services.
