5 Metro boys make all-MVC hoops

Five players from the Metro area have received first-team honors on the 2014 Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball team.

Adam McDermott of Xavier, Jordan Bohannon of Linn-Mar and Mike Mims of Prairie were named first team all-conference in the Valley Division.

A.J. Carter of Kennedy and Jacob Olson of Jefferson were named first team all-conference in the Mississippi Division.

All five players are guards. McDermott, Bohannon and Carter were unanimous selections.

Cougars top Wash; No.3 Lancers next

Drew Heitland knows he'll become a full-time football player the next time Kennedy loses a basketball game, so he's determined to keep his roundball career going as long as possible.

He played like it Friday night.

Heitland scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and provided some muscle as the Cougars topped Washington, 55-47, in the Class 4A substate semifinals at the Kennedy gym.

The Cougars (17-5) will face No.3 North Scott (21-1) in the substate finals Tuesday night at Clinton for a berth in the state tournament.

Warriors upset Clinton; Cougars up next

CLINTON - Washington shot out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and made it hold up to upset Clinton, 68-59, Monday in a Class 4A substate boys basketball game.

The Warriors (6-16) advance to play Kennedy (16-5) in a substate semifinal Friday night at Kennedy. The Cougars beat Washington twice during the regular season.

Washington had 10 players break into the scoring column against Clinton.

No.1 Rams too much for Warriors, 68-46

DUBUQUE - Kyle Haber scored 26 points and No.1 ranked Dubuque Senior rolled over Washington, 68-46, Friday night in MVC boys basketball.

Luke McDonnell added 17 points for Senior (20-1, 16-0).

Jared Printy led Washington (5-16, 5-11) with nine points.

Senior built a 15-9 lead in the first quarter to 32-19 by halftime.

City High tops Warriors, 62-52

Logan LaFauce made four 3-pointers and scored 18 points Tuesday night as Iowa City High defeated Washington, 62-52, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game at Washington.

Steven Kramer led Washington (5-15, 5-10) with 12 points. Maurice Arrington finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Austin Withrow scored 11 points for the Little Hawks (10-10, 6-9). Iowa City High led 33-15 at halftime.
