Carter lifts Cougars by Wash in OT

You can call him Anthony or you can call him A.J., but just remember to call Anthony "A.J." Carter's name when it's time to win a spirited Metro basketball game.

Carter scored eight of his 16 points in overtime Friday night as Kennedy trimmed Washington, 58-54, in a tense Mississippi Valley Conference game at Washington.

Carter struggled during the first 32 minutes of the ballgame, but he was the difference in the extra four-minute period.

"When he came over in overtime, he had that look in his eye," said Kennedy Coach Jon McKowen. "He said, 'I want the ball.'

Printy leads Washington boys past East

Jared Printy scored 14 points to lead a quartet of Washington scorers in double figures and the Warriors downed Waterloo East, 65-56, Tuesday in a boys basketball game at Washington.

Razadon Taylor scored 12 points, Jake Kramer 11 and Maurice Arrington 10 for Washington.

The game was tied at halftime, 28-28. Washington used a 16-9 advantage in the third quarter to build a seven-point lead. The Warriors outscored the Trojans 21-19 in a wild fourth quarter.

Lohaus nets 25 as West dumps Warriors

IOWA CITY - Wyatt Lohaus scored 25 points Friday night as top-ranked Iowa City West defeated Washington, 68-37, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Iowa City.

Adam Klein added 13 points for the Trojans (4-0, 1-0).

Maurice Arrington collected 10 points and six rebounds for Washington (0-3, 0-1).

Arrington nabs double-double for Wash

ELDRIDGE - Cedar Rapids Washington junior Maurice Arrington scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday night as the Warriors lost to North Scott, 62-40, in Eldridge.

Reid Snitker had four assists for the Warriors (0-2).

Marlon Steward poured in 23 points for North Scott (3-0). Grant Graham scored 17 for the Lancers.

Warriors flattened by Bettendorf, 67-35

Cedar Rapids Washington Coach Adam Sanchez is going to be an expert on the boys basketball ratings by this time next week.

That's unfortunate for him.

Washington opened the season Friday night with a 67-35 loss to Bettendorf, which finished 24-1 last year and played for the Class 4A state title in March.
