Warrior girls hold off No. 8 Iowa City West

IOWA CITY -- Washington held off a furious Iowa City West rally and beat the eighth-ranked Women of Troy, 63-61, Friday night at West.

Abby Herb scored 21 points to lead the Warriors (3-2, 2-2). Dani Franklin added 17 points and Madison Kramer had 12.

Ally Disterhoft scored a game-high 33 points for West.

Washington built a 33-24 lead by halftime and stretched the margin to 49-33 after three quarters.

West outscored the Warriors 28-14 in the fourth quarter.

Warrior girls hammer Hempstead

Dani Franklin scored 17 points and Abby Herb added 13 to lead Washington past Dubuque Hempstead, 68-41, Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Washington.

The Warrriors led 47-30 after three quarters, then put the Mustangs away with a 21-point fourth quarter.

Devin Glenski came off the bench to score nine points for Washington (2-2, 1-2).

Herb scores 24 in Warriors' win

MOLINE, Ill. - Abby Herb scored 24 points and Dani Franklin added 14 to lead Washington past Moline, 58-44, in a girls basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Washington (1-2) held a two-point lead after three quarters, but outscored Moline 21-9 in the fourth period.

The Warriors shot 39 percent for the game, but were only 4 of 24 from 3-point range.

Herb and Franklin also grabbed seven rebounds apiece. Colby Bjornsen had five assists.

Franklin nets 27 as Wash girls fall

DUBUQUE - Dani Franklin scored 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots Friday night for the Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball team, but her impressive statistics came in a losing battle.

Dubuque Senior defeated the Warriors, 82-69, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Dubuque.

Abby Herb collected 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Warriors (0-2, 0-2). Colby Bjornsen scored 10 points.

Kristie Sommer led Dubuque Senior with 29 points. Katie Sommer tossed in 26 points for the Rams.

Washington - Girls Basketball

Warriors fall to No. 4 City High

The Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball team dropped an 82-67 decision to No. 4 Iowa City High in the Mississippi Valley Conference opener at Washington Tuesday night.

Both teams were able to take the ball inside and score, but City High put four players in double figures and that balance proved to be the difference.

“City High has a lot of really nice complementary pieces to go with Haley Lorenzen and that makes them a challenge to defend,” Washington Coach Frank Howell said.
