Franklin named to IGCA all-state team

Washington junior Dani Franklin has been named a first team basketball all-stater by the Iowa Girls' Coaches Association (IGCA) it was announced Thursday.

Four other Metro players also earned third team honors.

Franklin was named to the Class 5A first team. She helped the Warriors to a 17-7 record and state tournament berth.

Kramer will play ball at North Dakota

Cedar Rapids Washington senior Madison Kramer has committed to play college basketball at the University of North Dakota.

Kramer, a 6-foot wing player, averaged 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-best 3.4 assists per game.

Washington reached the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state tournament and finished with a 17-7 record.

6 Metro girls make INA all-state

Dani Franklin of Cedar Rapids Washington and Ashley Stulken of Xavier have been named first team all-state in girls basketball by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Franklin helped the Warriors reach the state tournament and was named first team all-state in Class 5A. Stulken helped the Saints win a state title and was named first team in Class 4A.

Abby Herb of Washington, Madison Dellamuth of Cedar Rapids Prairie and Paige Hendrickson of Kennedy were named third team all-state in Class 5A.

Michalyn Mohr of Marion High School was named second team all-state in Class 4A.

Ally Disterhoft of Iowa City West was named Miss Basketball.

Franklin, Stulken named all-state by Register

Dani Franklin of Cedar Rapids Washington and Ashley Stulken of Xavier have been named to the all-state girls basketball teams by the Des Moines Register.

Franklin, a 6-foot-1 junior, averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds and helped the Warriors reach the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state tournament. She was named second team all-state in Class 5A.

Stulken, a 6-foot-2 senior, averaged 9.5 points and 7.2 rebounds and helped the Saints win the Class 4A state title Saturday night. She blocked 42 shots this season, including 14 in three games at the state tournament.

No.2 Ankeny too tough for Warriors, 66-58

DES MOINES - Ankeny sophomore Jaali Winters is a splendid 6-foot-3 athlete who can jump up and touch the rim and smile at the crowd while she's scoring baskets.

One of these days she might even dunk the ball.

"I've thought about it," she said Wednesday after putting on a show at the Class 5A state basketball tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Winters scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked seven shots to help the second-ranked Hawkettes dunk Cedar Rapids Washington, 66-58, in the quarterfinals.
