Wash parents file complaint against Lombardi

Parents of Cedar Rapids Washington students have filed a complaint against Washington coach Tony Lombardi and accused him of using inappropriate language in his dealings with the school's students and athletes, multiple sources have told the Metro Sports Report.

The complaint has reached the central administration of Cedar Rapids Community Schools, according to the sources.

Lombardi and Washington principal Ralph Plagman could not be reached for comment Saturday, Sunday or Monday, but both of them responded briefly to initial questions from the Metro Sports Report early last week.

Lombardi said in an e-mail last Monday that no parents had complained to him and directed questions to Plagman.

"I just know that baseball is going very well," he said. "The kids seem to like the change and our numbers are growing daily.

"You'd have to ask Ralph about parents. No one complains to me."

Lombardi was named Washington's baseball coach this winter, adding to his duties as the school's football coach.

Plagman told the Metro Sports Report early last week that he is not allowed by law to comment on any possible personnel matters, neither confirming nor denying that allegations had been made against Lombardi.

Plagman also said that Lombardi is still Washington's football and baseball coach.

The sources for this story declined to be identified. Interviews were conducted in person, by telephone and by e-mail with multiple individuals in the community.
