Snitker steers Warriors to amazing victory

Reid Snitker would not have been Washington's starting quarterback this season if Rocky Lombardi had not left town in August, but that doesn't matter now.

He's got the job and he's king of the world.

Snitker threw a pair of touchdown passes to Isaiah Nimmers in the final 61 seconds Thursday night as the Warriors rallied from a 27-15 deficit and stunned Waterloo West, 28-27, on homecoming at Kingston Stadium.

"I can't do anything but smile," he said after engineering one of the greatest comebacks in school history.

Snitker carries Wash past Linn-Mar

It has been a long time between wins for Paul James as a head coach.

James returned to the Cedar Rapids Washington sideline this season after a seven-year hiatus.  In the first three games this season, his Warriors had ample opportunity to get a victory. They weren’t about to let that chance slip away in Friday night’s showdown with Linn-Mar at Kingston Stadium.

Washington scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to break a 14-14 deadlock, then held off a final drive from the Lions to come away with a hard-fought 26-21 win.

Warriors fall at Cedar Falls, 21-7

CEDAR FALLS — On a night when the offense didn’t have its ‘A’ game, the Cedar Falls defense did.

The seventh-ranked Tigers forced five turnovers and converted three of them into touchdowns as they rallied to beat Cedar Rapids Washington, 21-7, Friday in Mississppi Valley Conference action at the UNI-Dome.

Cedar Falls (3-0, 1-0) was held under 200 total yards of total offense and committed two turnovers, but the Tigers forced two Warrior fumbles and picked off three Reid Snitker passes.

Warriors dumped by IC West, 49-8

Losing some of their stars from last year hasn't caused Iowa City West to miss a beat so far.

The Trojans went 10-1 a season ago, upset only by Cedar Rapids Prairie in the second round of the playoffs.

They graduated leading rusher Ezra Reiners and receivers Jeremy Morgan and Dondre Alexander. But that's hardly slowed them down any.

In their opening game last week, they blasted Linn-Mar, 67-28. And Friday night at Kingston Stadium they pasted Cedar Rapids Washington, 49-8.

Jacobus helps Cougars trim Warriors

Kennedy quarterback Derek Jacobus made up for lost time Friday night, leading the Cougars to a 14-10 victory over Cedar Rapids Washington at Kingston Stadium.

It was the first season-opening win for Kennedy since 2008, and it was engineered by a player who missed the entire 2012 campaign.

Jacobus sat out last fall with a shoulder injury he suffered during the pre-season while working as a receiver.
