DUBUQUE - It's been a tough year for the Cedar Rapids Washington softball team, but the Warriors nearly pulled a big upset against Dubuque Hempstead on Thursday.

Bria Lenten hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give Washington a 3-2 lead in the second game of their Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader, but Hempstead scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 victory.

Hempstead (23-3, 15-3) won the first game, 12-0, in three innings.

Jordan Carr went 3-for-3 for the Warriors (3-20, 1-17) in the second game.
