WATERLOO - The Xavier Saints swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader from Waterloo West on Friday, but the second game got a little hairy.
Xavier took a 13-7 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap, but Waterloo West rallied for five runs before the Saints escaped 13-12.
Xavier had an easier time in the opener, 9-3.
Adam Pick colleced four hits and Jordan Ratz slugged a three-run for Xavier (8-5, 5-3) in the first game. Zack Fricke had two hits for Waterloo West (1-10, 0-7).
Zach Brown had three hits for the Saints in the second game. Waterloo West pitchers gave the Saints 13 free baserunners with 10 walks and three hit batters.
Fricke had three hits for Waterloo West in the second game with a home run. Matt Ohrt also hit a homer for the Wahawks.
