A Xavier High School football player has been suspended for making an inappropriate comment during the team's home game against Iowa City High School on Sept. 16.

Mike Winker, Xavier's athletic director and associate principal, made the announcement Saturday morning.

"We have suspended a football player indefinitely from the football team," Winker said. "It's one player for one thing that was said."

Winker did not identify the player.

The athletic directors and football coaches from both schools discussed the issue during the week after complaints had been raised about alleged improper conduct on the field during the game.

The player was informed of the suspension Friday morning and did not play against Cedar Falls Friday night.
