Xavier wins Regina tournament

Xavier posted a pair of shutouts Saturday to capture the Regina Catholic Schools Tournament held at the Tuma Sports Complex.

The Saints downed Davenport Assumption, 3-0, in their first match, giving Coach Amir Hadzic his 100th win as Xavier’s coach. Mason Hoxie got the Saints on the board early in the second half and Chad Eichler added a pair of second-half goals. Steve Jones, Connor Ramlo and Josh Hoffman had assists.

Xavier had a similar match in the final with Dyersville Beckman. The game was scoreless at the half, but Hoffman, Ramlo and Luke Duball converted in the second half for the Saints.

No. 4 Saints clobber No. 7 Wahlert

Metro Sports Report

The Xavier Saints needed only five minutes to score their first goal Thursday and cruised to a 6-0 victory over Dubuque Wahlert in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Heco Field.

Xavier is ranked No .4 in Class 2A and Wahlert is ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, but the Saints thoroughly dominated the match.

Connor Ramlo, Joshua Hoffmann, Camden Stovie, Chad Eichler, Sam Blake and Sam Heart scored for Xavier. Luke Koechner had two assists. Ramlo, Hoffmann, Steven Jones and Mason Hoxie also had assists.

The Saints led at halftime, 4-0.

4 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

The four premier boys soccer teams in the Metro area are ranked 2-3-4-5 in the polls this week by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IAHSSCA).

The Xavier Saints are ranked No.2 in Class 2A. Kennedy is ranked No. 3, Linn-Mar is No. 4 and Washington is No. 5 in Class 3A, through matches of April 12.

Xavier fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in Class 2A. Norwalk replaced the Saints at the top of the rankings.

Kennedy remained No. 3 in Class 3A, but Linn-Mar and Washington traded spots in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Iowa City West is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, followed by Johnston.

Prairie dropped out of the 3A rankings this week.

Defensive mistakes costly for Xavier

DUBUQUE - Two defensive miscues by Xavier led to a pair of first-half goals as Dubuque Hempstead downed the Saints, 2-0, on Tuesday in boys soccer action.

Xavier turned up the pressure in the second half, but the Mustangs went into a defensive mode and were able to keep the Saints off the board.

No.1 Saints drub Waterloo East, 16-0

It took the Cedar Rapids Xavier Saints only 30 seconds to score their first goal Friday afternoon on their way to a 16-0 victory over Waterloo East in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer meet at Heco Field.

Xavier led at halftime, 12-0.

Chad Eichler scored four goals for the Saints, who are ranked No.1 in Class 2A. Connor Ramlo, Caelen Lilly, Sam Blake and Joe Mulangaliro scored twice apiece. Josh Hoffmann, Luke Koechner, Jerry Duball and Camden Stovie had one goal each.

Ramlo collected six assists. Duball had two assists.
