Time change for Xavier-Kennedy soccer

The start time for the boys soccer game between Xavier and Kennedy on Friday at Kennedy has been changed to 5:30 p.m. The sophomore game will follow at 7:15 p.m.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A and Kennedy is undefeated and ranked No.1 in Class 3A.

The schools agreed to change the time because both have games Saturday on the road. Xavier plays at Dubuque Wahlert at 9 a.m. and Kennedy at Iowa City West at 2 p.m.

Cowden leads Saints past Cedar Falls, 2-0

Dan Cowden scored a goal and had an assist to help Class 2A No.1 Xavier to a 2-0 win over Cedar Falls in boys soccer Tuesday at Xavier.

Cowden's goal came in the third minute of the game. Connor Ramlo made a pass to Eli Smith, who tapped it on to Cowden. His shot into the left lower corner of the goal was true for a 1-0 lead.

Ramlo scored an insurance goal late in the game off a pass from Cowden.

Paul Cavin recorded his seventh shutout in goal for the Saints.

Xavier won its seventh game and snapped Cedar Falls' seven-game winning streak.

Kennedy, Xavier hold down top spots in soccer polls

Kennedy and Xavier both held onto the top spots in the Class 3A and 2A boys soccer polls, respectively, that were released Monday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy received all 10 first-place votes in Class 3A. Washington and Prairie held onto the 5 and 6 spots, respectively. Linn-Mar slipped two spots to No.9.

Xavier received six first-place votes. Unbeaten Spencer got the other four votes and is No.2 in the poll.

Ramlo's goal lifts Saints by Lions

Connor Ramlo scored in the third minute of the game Thursday as the Xavier Saints blanked Linn-Mar, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer game on a cold, wet night at Linn-Mar.

Ramlo received a pass from Isaac Frisch, eluded a Linn-Mar defender and booted the ball into the low right corner of the goal.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A and Linn-Mar is ranked No.7 in Class 3A.

Both teams had scoring opportunities as the game proceeded, but neither team found the net in the next 77 minutes.

Metro teams dominate boys soccer poll

Kennedy heads up a four-team contingent from the Metro ranked in the top seven of this week's Class 3A boys soccer poll released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy is ranked No.1 and received all 10 first-place votes cast in the poll. Washington is ranked fifth, Prairie sixth and Linn-Mar seventh.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A. The Saints received all but one first-place vote.
