Nzoyisaba helps Warriors tip Saints

If you liked Etienne Nzoyisaba as a distance runner at Cedar Rapids Washington the last few years, you might absolutely love him as a soccer player.

Nzoyisaba quit running on a track this spring and began running on a soccer field, giving the Warriors another potent weapon on a talented club.

Nzoyisaba made the key pass Tuesday night as the Warriors topped Xavier, 1-0, in a fierce Mississippi Valley Conference battle under the lights at Kingston Stadium.

Xavier - Boys Soccer

No.1 Saints boys blast North Scott, 10-0

Eli Smith had three goals and four assists to guide No.1 Xavier past North Scott, 10-0, Saturday in a boys soccer game at Xavier.

Isaac Frisch and Connor Ramlo had two goals apiece for Xavier. Luke Koechner, Dan Cowden and Josh Hoffmann also scored.

Ramlo added two assist. Frisch, Cowden, Alex Haag and Sam Blake also had assists.

Smith's first assist came just 22 seconds into the game, when he sent a scoring pass to Frisch. The duo exchanged roles for Xavier's next goal, Smith scoring on a pass from Frisch.

Xavier built a 5-0 lead by halftime and cruised to the win.

No.1 Saints blank Waterloo West, 1-0

Isaac Frisch scored the only goal of the game in the first half Thursday as No.1 Xavier trimmed Waterloo West, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Heco Field.

Eli Smith collected the assist on Frisch's goal.

Paul Cavin posted his fourth shutout of the season in goal.

No.1 Saints edged by IC West, 2-1

IOWA CITY - Sunday Mueng converted a penalty kick with six minutes left in the second half Tuesday as Iowa City West trimmed Xavier, 2-1, in a premier Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match in Iowa City.

The Saints are ranked No.1 in Class 2A and the Trojans are ranked No.3 in Class 3A.

El Ramadi gave Iowa City West a 1-0 lead in the second half. Isaac Frisch tied the game for Xavier, 1-1, on a pass from Connor Ramlo.

The Saints were called for a foul with about six minutes left in the game and Mueng curved his shot around the Xavier wall for the game-winning goal.

Cougars, Saints are No.1 in boys soccer

The Kennedy Cougars and Xavier Saints moved to the top of the boys soccer rankings Tuesday.

Kennedy replaced Prairie as the No.1 team in Class 3A. Xavier replaced Dubuque Wahlert as the No.1 club in Class 2A.

Prairie fell to No.4 in Class 3A. Washington is ranked sixth and Linn-Mar is tied for 12th.
