Jefferson is ranked No.8 in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union softball Class 5A poll released Friday.

The J-Hawks (2-0) were not ranked in last week's preseason poll.

Xavier (2-0), meanwhile, moved up three spots to No.4 in the Class 4A rankings.

The top-ranked teams are Pleasant Valley (5A), Dallas Center-Grimes (4A), Mid-Prairie (3A), Treynor (2A) and Don Bosco (1A).
