Reese Phillips and Daniel Gorsich from the Linn-Mar football team are the co-winners of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
Phillips and Gorsich enjoyed a record-setting night Friday when the Lions walloped Clinton, 50-14.
Phillips, a junior, set a school record with five touchdown passes. Gorsich, a senior, tied the school record by scoring four touchdowns in a single game, all on passes from Phillips.
Phillips hit 12 of 16 passes for 267 yards and five TDs, including a 62-yard strike to Kirby Kerr. His touchdown passes to Gorsich covered 58, 19, 7 and 10 yards. Gorsich caught eight passes for 151 yards in the game.
Phillips did all his damage in less than three quarters. He suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter, but is expected to play when Linn-Mar (1-2) meets Washington (2-1) at Kingston Stadium Thursday night.
