Kate Busswitz of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
Busswitz, a senior, helped the Prairie volleyball team capture top honors at the Linn-Mar Invitational Saturday with six straight 2-0 victories.
Busswitz collected 41 kills in the tournament for the balanced Hawks. She leads Prairie this season with 80 kills and 31 blocks in 11 matches.
Prairie is ranked 10th in Class 5A with a 10-1 record. The Hawks defeated four ranked teams in the Linn-Mar tournament with straight-set verdicts over Muscatine, Vinton-Shellsburg, Solon (No. 11 in 3A), Davenport Assumption (No. 6 in 3A), Hempstead (No. 9 in 5A) and Linn-Mar (No. 7 in 5A).
Prairie topped Linn-Mar, 21-12, 21-19, for the championship. They'll meet again Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Linn-Mar.
Busswitz has committed to play college volleyball at the University of Northern Iowa.
