Brody Alberts pitched for Todd Rima at Cedar Rapids Prairie and now he's pitching for Coach Rima at Kirkwood.
It's turning out very well.
Alberts made his first start for Kirkwood Tuesday and tossed five shutout innings as the Eagles topped Marshalltown, 10-4, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Kirkwood.
The Eagles captured the second game, 7-5, for their fifth straight victory and raised their record to 23-10.
Alberts, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, graduated from Prairie in 2015 and was red-shirted at Kirkwood last season as a true freshman.
Getting a chance to start Tuesday, he did not allow any runs in the first five innings before being touched for two runs in the sixth inning and departing the mound.
Alberts (3-1, 2.89 ERA) allowed two runs on two hits, with two strikeouts and four walks. Nic Mougin, another Prairie grad, got the final two outs for Kirkwood in the seventh inning.
Korry Howell went 3-for-4 for Kirkwood in the 10-4 victory. Chili Moseley drove in three runs and Toran Shahidi had two RBIs.
Lorenzo Elion went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for Kirkwood in the 7-5 Game 2 victory.
