WALFORD - Cody Bell hit two home runs and picked up the victory in Game 2 as Fairfax swept Walford, 11-0 and 11-1, on Opening Day in the Iowa Valley League Sunday in Walford.
Bell and Sammy Lizarraga belted two-run homers in the first game. Tyler Dralle, Steve Jensen and Alex Hayden had two hits for Fairfax, which exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning.
Austin Czerwiez allowed only one hit in five innings in the opener for Fairfax.
Bell socked another home run in the second game and was named the Iowa Valley League Player of the Week for his overall performance as a hitter and pitcher.
WATKINS 9-0, WILLIAMSBURG 6-6
WATKINS - The Watkins Mudhens and Williamsburg Red Sox split an IVL doubleheader Sunday in Watkins.
Watkins won the first game, 9-6, with a big attack. DJ Utley collected two doubles and two RBIs. Cole Jameson had two hits and two RBIs. Jonnny Frese had a double and two RBIs.
Chris Krystowiak picked up the victory in Game 1 and Luke Franzenburg got the save with five strikeouts.
Vic Malloy and Dustin Meieroto combined on the shutout for Williamsburg in the second game. Malloy tossed five innings and Meieroto tossed the last two frames. Malloy was named the IVL Pitcher of the Week.
Noah Heitshusen had three hits for Williamsburg in the victory. Aaron Ockenfels had a two-run double.
