Metro Players in Pro Baseball

The Metro Sports Report is providing a daily update for all of the Metro players in professional baseball again this season. Here is the full report through Tuesday, June 3:

RYAN SWEENEY (Xavier), Chicago Cubs, OF Sweeney has been on the 15-Day Disabled List with a strained hamstring in his right leg since May 3. He is hitting .200 (11 for 55) with 6 RBIs. Sweeney has been rehabbing at Chicago's training base in Arizona but recently suffered a setback with his rehab, according to MLB.com.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Chattanooga, OF, Double-A, Southern League (Dodgers) Schebler went 1-for-3 Tuesday with an RBI and two runs. He also went 1-for-3 Wednesday afternoon and scored another run. Schebler is hitting .256 (53 for 207) with 9 doubles, 7 triples, 11 homers and 33 RBIs.

KELLEN SWEENEY (CR Jefferson), Dunedin, IF, Advanced A, Florida State League (Blue Jays) Sweeney enjoyed his best day of the season Tuesday. He went 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and run scored, raising his average from .138 to .212. He is 7-for-33 with four doubles and an RBI.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Kernels, OF/IF, Class A, Midwest League (Twins) The Kernels were idle Tuesday. Christensen is hitting .290 (56 for 193) with 5 homers and 24 RBIs.

JON KELLER (Xavier), Delmarva, P, Class A, South Atlantic League (Orioles) Keller (2-0, 1.80, 2 saves) did not pitch Tuesday.

ANDREW HANSE (Linn-Mar), Bowling Green, P, Class A, Midwest League (Tampa Bay).Hanse (0-3, 7.13 ERA) is on the 7-Day Disabled List.

DAKOTA FREESE (Washington), Arizona Athletics, P, Rookie Arizona League (Oakland): The Arizona Athletics have not begun their season. The Arizona Rookie League begins June 20.

Schebler hits another homer for Lookouts

Cedar Rapids Prairie grad Scott Schebler had another big game Friday for Chattanooga in the Class AA Southern League. He went 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, giving him three homers in the past two games.

The Metro Sports Report is providing a daily update for all of the Metro graduates who are playing pro baseball this season.

Here is the report through Friday, April 25:

RYAN SWEENEY (Xavier), Chicago Cubs, OF: Sweeney played center field and hit 7th for the Cubs in their 5-2 loss to Milwaukee. He went 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI. He is batting .205 (9 for 43) with 4 RBIs.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Chattanooga, OF, Double-A, Southern League (Dodgers): Schebler raised his batting average to .244 (20 for 82) with his big game Friday. He has four doubles, three triples, five homers and 14 RBIs in 21 games.

KELLEN SWEENEY (CR Jefferson), Dunedin, IF, Advanced A, Florida State League (Blue Jays): Sweeney is on the 7-Day Disabled List and has not played this season.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Kernels, OF/IF, Class A, Midwest League (Twins): Christensen went 1-for-5 with an RBI in the Kernels' 6-1 win at Clinton. He is hitting .302 (16-for-53).

JON KELLER (Xavier), Delmarva, P, Class A, South Atlantic League (Orioles): Keller (0-0, 4.50) did not pitch Friday.

ANDREW HANSE (Linn-Mar), Bowling Green, P, Class A, Midwest League (Tampa Bay): Hanse (0-2, 6.75) did not pitch Friday.

5 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

Cedar Rapids Prairie moved back into the boys soccer rankings Tuesday, giving the Metro area five teams in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches

Association polls this week.

The Hawks are tied for 12th in Class 3A. Kennedy is ranked fourth, Linn-Mar fifth and Washington 11th in Class 3A.

The Xavier Saints dropped two spots to No.4 in Class 2A.

Schebler socks 2 homers for Lookouts

Cedar Rapids Prairie grad Scott Schebler went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs Thursday for the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Class AA Southern League.

The Metro Sports Report is providing a daily update for all of the Metro graduates who are playing pro baseball this season.

RYAN SWEENEY (Xavier), Chicago Cubs, OF: Sweeney did not play Thursday in Chicago's 5-2 loss to Arizona. He is batting .190 (8 for 42) with 3 runs, 4 RBIs, 9 strikeouts and 3 walks.

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Chattanooga, OF, Double-A, Southern League (Dodgers): Schebler raised his batting average to .231 (18 for 78) with his big game Thursday. He has four homers and 12 RBIs.

KELLEN SWEENEY (CR Jefferson), Dunedin, IF, Advanced A, Florida State League (Blue Jays): Sweeney is on the 7-Day Disabled List and has not played this season.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Kernels, OF/IF, Class A, Midwest League (Twins): The Kernels were rained out Thursday. He is hitting .313 (15-for-48).

Metro teams win 6 events in Dubuque

DUBUQUE — Metro athletes won six events at the Harold Sweet Tri-State Invitational track meet in Dubuque on Thursday.

The Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars claimed three titles with Jacob Shannon in the 200 (22.84), Famiek Cook in the long jump (21-9 3/4) and the 4x100 relay.

The Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks captured two gold medals with Nate Karlan in the 100 meter dash (11.29) and the 4x100 relay.

The Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors won the distance medley.

Monticello won the meet with 89 points. The Prairie Hawks placed second with 87 markers in the 15-team meet. Cedar Rapids Kennedy finished third, Jefferson seventh and Washington eighth.
