Football prevues - Nov. 4

The second round of the football playoffs are Monday night and two Metro ballclubs are still alive on the Road to the Dome.

Xavier (9-1) hosts league foe Iowa City High (8-2) at Saints Field and Kennedy (7-3) travels to Davenport to face Assumption (9-1) for the first time.

City High was a beaten down opponent before it took the field last year in a first-round game at Xavier. The injury-plagued Little Hawks were playing out the string in a rare losing season and were trampled by the Saints 48-10.

The second season starts Wednesday when the playoffs kickoff in six classes across the state.

On the local front there are four games, including a doubleheader at Kingston Stadium.

Xavier is on a quest to reach its second consecutive Class 4A title game. The Saints (8-1) host Clinton (4-5) in a game that shapes up as a huge mismatch.

The highlight of the evening is at Kingston Stadium and features a pair of rematches. Washington (6-3) hosts Cedar Falls (6-3) at 5:30 p.m. and Kennedy (6-3) hosts Prairie (5-4) at approximately 8 p.m.

Football prevues - Oct. 24-25

The final two nights of the regular season kickoff Thursday with most of the spots already decided for the football playoffs.

Xavier, Kennedy, Prairie and Washington all have wrapped up playoff berths.

Marion has a shot at making the playoffs, but needs some help.

Linn-Mar, Jefferson and Cedar Valley Christian will stay at home.

That's the simplified version. The rest of the story involves math and as I told the blackjack dealer in Vegas last week, "Too much math gives me a headache."

At the risk of temporary blindness, here we go with the rest of the story.
