APPLETON, Wis. - There was a little extra excitement at the ballpark Wednesday night as the Cedar Rapids Kernels lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 6-4, before 4,366 fans at Fox Cities Stadium.

Six players and coaches were ejected in the sixth inning when both benches and bullpens cleared, although no punches were thrown.

Michael Ratterree led off the bottom of the sixth inning for Wisconsin and was hit by a pitch by Kernels starter Aaron Slegers. Clint Coulter, the next batter, hit a two-run homer to tie the game 4-4.

Slegers threw an inside pitch to Jose Pena, and the excitement began after Pena stared at Slegers and all the players flocked onto the field.

Kernels catcher Michael Quesada was ejected. So was Joel Licon, who was working as the Kernels' bullpen catcher during the game. Bill Springman, the Minnesota Twins minor league hitting coordinator, was with the Kernels Wednesday night and he was ejected too.

Pena, Omar Garcia and Wisconsin pitching coach Elvin Nina also were ejected. Garcia was hit by a pitch by Slegers earlier in the game.

Cedar Rapids batters Chad Christensen and Ryan Walker were hit by Wisconsin pitcher Tyler Alexander in the ballgame.

Taylor Brennan hit a two-run walkoff homer in the ninth inning against Brandon Bixler to win the game for the Timber Rattlers.

The Kernels (27-32) and Timber Rattlers (27-31) meet again Thursday night in Appleton.
