Metro Records section is valuable tool on MSR

I'm starting to get addicted to the Metro Records section on the Metro Sports Report website.

How about you?

The Metro Records were a great help during the high school football season while we tracked Tyler Dralle's pursuit of the single-season rushing record for Metro players.

The Kennedy star cracked the all-time mark in the championship game of the Class 4A playoffs, when he raised his total to 2,254 yards for the 2015 campaign and topped Andre Dawson's old mark of 2,212 for Washington in 2009.

The Metro Records section came in handy again Friday night when Jordan Bohannon popped in nine 3-pointers for the Linn-Mar Lions in a victory over Cedar Rapids Prairie. With just a few clicks, we were able to learn that Adam Spanich set the Metro Report when he made 10 3-pointers for Regis High School in 1994.

We also found that Jordan Bohannon broke his brother Jason's school record for most 3-pointers in one game (Jason made eight in a game 10 years ago). And we quickly found that Mike Penney of Washington made nine 3-pointers in a game in 2002, so Jordan Bohannon and Penney are tied for the second-most triples in one contest.

Mark Dukes is the brainchild and driving force behind the Metro Records section on our website. Many of you know Mark from his years as an ace reporter and sports editor at The Gazette and now as a member of the team at KGYM radio.

Mark also contributes to the Metro Sports Report and we wouldn't have the Metro Records without him. Mike Condon, one of our top editors at the MSR, works closely with Mark in updating the records and is meticulous in tracking the various categories.

If you've never taken a look at the Metro Records, please take a few minutes and check it out. The tab for the Metro Records is located at the top of the main home page, along with all the schools and teams that we cover. Simply click on the Metro Records tab and you'll go straight to the material.

If you'd like to visit the Metro Records right now, simply CLICK HERE and you'll be there in a few seconds.

We've got records for football, basketball, swimming, track and wrestling and we have plans to add more sports as time goes by. Personally, I'd love to see all the Metro Records for baseball.

Who hit the most home runs? Who has the highest career batting average? Who compiled the most victories and strikeouts on the mound? Who has the most stolen bases?

(Hey, Dukes. It's time to get busy again!)

By the way, Mark would welcome your help in updating the records if we've missed something. Simply send me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I'll pass it along to Mark.

All of the records are neatly organized for easy navigation.

Now that we're heavily into the high school basketball season, I'm sure I'll be referring to those records on a regular basis. In case you're wondering, Anne O'Neil of Kennedy holds the career scoring mark for Metro girls with 2,494 points from 1996-2000 and Marcus Paige of Linn-Mar owns the Metro record for boys with 1,701 from 2009-2012.

We try to stay on top of the records on a daily basis, but we cannot be everywhere and see everything. That's why we invite our readers to help keep us informed when you see something interesting. We're always just a phone call or an email away.

And for all you high school coaches in the audience, it would be a great help if you would update your information on QuikStats as quickly as possible so we can have access to those official numbers.

Hmmm ... I wonder what the record is for most steak sandwiches sold at a Jefferson softball game? They're mighty tasty.
